Atheist Talent: A Rational Response by Greydon Square

I came across Greydon Square a little while ago on a write up done by vjack at Atheist Revolution. This rap is both intelligent, bringing up quite a few good points and it actually sounds professionally recorded. It’s a song I would listen to just because it sounds good - the fact that it’s about atheism is just icing on the cake. I haven’t had a chance to check out much of his other stuff. The few I’ve heard are quite good but this one is my favorite by far.

Hope you enjoy:

My name is….Greydon Square
And I’m a always give it to you straight
Check it. Yo Yo.

(Verse 1)
I’m like the Atheist spokesman
That why I come under fire and pressure attacks like Rex Grossman
Yea this game is intense
I been sayin it since agnostics people been playin the fence
They keep sayin its the same in a sense
That evolution requires faith, that universe just came to exist
First of all, microevolution been proven
In the same way that sound waves let you listen to music
And macroevolution is the system of change
At or above the level of the species inflicted with change
That’s microevolution on a grand scale we can’t even word
because our life span’s too short to observe
“But carbon dating is flawed”
“Its half life is 5730 years, and that supports our cause”
Now that’d be great if we used it to date
But since we don’t then I’m a question that argument’s weight
We use potassium argon to date to date the globe
Not carbon 12 or carbon 14 not none of those
So before you attack Grey go get ya facts straight
Because in the facts race, your God comes into last place

(Chorus)
Belief in Gods, we can fix that
Irrational thoughts we get dispatched
It may be hard be we’ll get back
In the position to just to end that

(Verse 2)
To battle me you need to reason clearly
Now I’m not sayin fear me
But at least be versed in punctuated equilibrium theory
Grand unified fields, quantum mechanics and dark planets
With logic that’s sharper than a blade of d’Artagnan’s
To destroy arguments of creationists who cant stand it
Then they try and hit me with the wager
Who? Pascal’s wager. Who? Pascal’s wager.
Now that’s a fool’s bet
And against the intelligent it’s used less
Really? You bet
This aint nothing new, they use it on kids
But for those who don’t know it goes a little like this
Wouldn’t you rather believe in God and be wrong
Then to not believe in God and be wrong
If you believe in God and your wrong you’ve lost nothing
But if you don’t believe and you’re wrong its all suffering
The problem is you can try it on anything
Switch the Gods around and apply it to anything
The Flyin Spaghetti Monster, Zeus, Amin, Ra
Krishna, Odin, Baal and then Allah
Which one of em’s our God?
None of em all false
And blame it on the Atheists its always our fault
Except it never is
So don’t get mad at us we just showin ya’ll the evidence

(Chorus)
Belief in Gods, we can fix that
Irrational thoughts we get dispatched
It may be hard be we’ll get back
In the position to just to end that

I’m a make the fundies hate me
They gon’ need a new reason to shut down rap
But they wont shut down rap that degrades women though huh.
They wont shut down rap that talks about sellin crack though huh
Hypocrites
Its all good…

  1. I am quite impressed with that! It is nice to see someone using such a powerful tool to reach the youth to spread an enlightening message instead of spreading the message of getting rich, laid, and high. It would be nice to see few intellects get record deals.

  2. INTERESTING CONVERSATION an Atheist Professor of Philosophy speaks to his Class on the Problem Science has with GOD, the ALMIGHTY.
He asks one of his New Christian Students to stand and….

Professor: You are a Christian, aren’t you, son ?
    Student : Yes, sir.
Professor: So you Believe in GOD ?
    Student : Absolutely, sir.
    Professor: Is GOD Good ?
    Student : Sure.
Professor: Is GOD ALL - POWERFUL ?
    Student : Yes.
Professor: My Brother died of Cancer even though he Prayed to GOD to Heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But GOD didn’t. \How is this GOD good then? Hmm?

    ( Student is silent )

Professor: You can’t answer, can you ? Let’s start again, Young Fella. Is GOD Good?
    Student : Yes.
    Professor: Is Satan good ?
    Student : No.
Professor: Where does Satan come from?
    Student : From . . . GOD . . .
Professor: That’s right. Tell me son, is there evil in this World?
    Student : Yes.
Professor: Evil is everywhere, isn’t it ? And GOD did make everything. Correct?
    Student : Yes.
    Professor: So who created evil?

( Student does not answer )

Professor: Is there Sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the World, don’t they?
    Student : Yes, sir.
    Professor: So, who Created them?

( Student has no answer )

Professor: Science says you have 5 Senses you use to Identify and Observe the World around you. Tell me, son . . . Have you ever Seen GOD?
    Student : No, sir.
Professor: Tell us if you have ever Heard your GOD ?
    Student : No , sir.
Professor: Have you ever Felt your GOD, Tasted your GOD, Smelt your GOD ? Have you ever had any Sensory Perception of GOD for that matter?
    Student : No, sir. I’m afraid I haven’t.
Professor: Yet you still Believe in HIM ?
    Student : Yes.
Professor: According to Empirical, Testable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says your GOD doesn’t exist. What do you say to that, son?
Student : Nothing. I only have my Faith.
Professor: Yes. Faith and that is the Problem Science has.
Student : Professor, is there such a thing as Heat?
    Professor: Yes.
Student : And is there such a thing as Cold?
    Professor: Yes.
Student : No sir. There isn’t.

( The Lecture Theatre becomes very quiet with this turn of events )

Student : Sir, you can have Lots of Heat, even More Heat, Superheat, Mega Heat, White Heat, a Little Heat or No Heat. But we don’t have anything called Cold. We can hit 458 Degrees below Zero which is No Heat, but we can’t go any further after that. There is no such thing as Cold. Cold is only a Word we use to describe the Absence of Heat.

We cannot Measure Cold. Heat is Energy. Cold is Not the Opposite of Heat, sir, just the Absence of it.

( There is Pin - Drop Silence in the Lecture Theatre )

Student : What about Darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as Darkness?
Professor: Yes. What is Night if there isn’t Darkness?
Student : You’re wrong again, sir. Darkness is the Absence of Something. You can have Low Light, Normal Light, Bright Light, Flashing Light . . . But if you have No Light constantly, you have nothing and its called Darkness, isn’t it? In reality, Darkness isn’t. If it is, were you would be able to make Darkness Darker, wouldn’t you?

Professor: So what is the point you are making, Young Man ?
Student : Sir, my point is your Philosophical Premise is flawed.
Professor: Flawed ? Can you explain how?
Student : Sir, you are working on the Premise of Duality. You argue there is Life and then there is Death, a Good GOD and a Bad GOD. You are viewing the Concept of GOD as something finite, something we can measure.

Sir, Science can’t even explain a Thought. It uses Electricity and Magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view Death as the Opposite of Life is to be ignorant of the fact that Death cannot exist as a Substantive Thing. Death is Not the Opposite of Life: just the Absence of it.

Now tell me, Professor, do you teach your Students that they evolved from a Monkey?

Professor: If you are referring to the Natural Evolutionary Process, yes, of course, I do.
Student : Have you ever observed Evolution with your own eyes, sir?

( The Professor shakes his head with a Smile, beginning to realize where the Argument is going )

Student : Since no one has ever observed the Process of Evolution at work and cannot even prove that this Process is an on - Going Endeavor, are you not Teaching your Opinion, sir? Are you not a Scientist but a Preacher?

( The Class is in Uproar )

Student : Is there anyone in the Class who has ever seen the Professor’s Brain?

( The Class breaks out into Laughter )

Student : Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor’s Brain, Felt it, touched or Smelt it? . . .

No one appears to have done so. So, according to the Established Rules of Empirical, Stable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says that you have No Brain, sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then Trust you’re Lectures, sir?

( The Room is Silent. The Professor stares at the Student, his face unfathomable)

Professor: I guess you’ll have to take them on Faith, son.
    Student : That is it sir . . .

the Link between Man & GOD is FAITH. That is all that Keeps Things Moving & Alive.

Only Believe, All things are possible..Only Believe!!

  3. Thank you Angel, for dropping by and leaving us a cliche. I have a few problems with story you posted above.

    1. Without the added commentary of the stunned silence and the details of the professor’s face, this story is pretty bland. Remove all of that and we’re left with two people arguing on some terrible theological terms.

    2. I am assuming that the discussion of darkness and cold are to imply that evil exists in the absence of a god. This god cannot, therefore, be omnipotent. Which is counter to an assumption that a lot of religious people seem to make.

    3. Discussions about seeing electricity and magnetism do not make much sense. We can measure the effects of either when they are present in a system. There is consistent observation and data that tells us that these things are at work. I am not aware of a god equation that will let me know when god is at work in a system.

    4. I believe that the previous point also applies to evolution. It doesn’t make sense to ask if anyone has seen evolution. But I am not taking it on faith that evolution is a fact. There is a body of evidence that supports evolution by natural selection.

    5. Whether or not we have seen the professor’s brain is irrelevant. Throughout history we have dissected many people. They have all had brains. I consider that to be proof by exhaustion. We also know that by removing the brain or parts of it, a person ceases to function. So, it stands to reason that the professor would have a brain. We have no other universes to look at and determine if a god is constant attribute. We also do not know whether or not a universe could function without this god. The similarity between the prof’s brain and god appears to be false.

    6. It seems like if the arguments were this plain and simple theologians would have dismissed the case already.

Allow me to explore a new idea. Maybe there is no such thing as god. God is only a word we use to describe the absence of knowledge.

  4. Well, John C has already covered most of the holes in Angels’ post, but I would add that portraying the professor in the story as a condescending know-it-all is a bit manipulative, and also that I would doubt such a professor would become dumbstruck when challenged to prove that his own brain exists.

I did a search on the first few words of your story, and find that, rather than being a personal experience of your own, it is just a copied and pasted story that is duplicated all over the web. Worse, it has virtually nothing to do with the post.

It’s that sort of blanket propaganda that is easily shown for what it is, and reserved only for the desperate and/or lazy. I noticed a few others like yourself on Amazon.com posting up duplicate reviews or comments (I use the term loosely) for various atheist/humanist books, that are just preachings with little to do with the original product.

Please attempt to post your own opinions next time rather than parroting something said by a string of people before you and offering no thoughts of your own. Oh, wait… that’s how religion works isn’t it so no wonder.

  5. I like raps bands with this this type of lyrics. People must say something with sense.

  6. you video is very interesting.
